I have not had much time of late to build anything but I am making an effort to find some time..

I have just received my Limerick Sudden 20m Receiver kit by G-QRP Club. This looks to be an excellent kit very well presented and packaged. I ordered it via the G-QRP website and received the kit the next day ;)

On first opening the package every think was present and correct. I have read the instructions and have as recommended sorted the components in to order ready for assembly. The PCB / case design is excellent.

I will post some more updates as I build the receiver. I have wanted to build one of the Sudden receivers for years now I have most of the bits I need but the temptation to order this very polished and well presented kit was too much to resist.
Well done George Dobbs G3RV, Rex W1REX, Graham G3MFJ and the G-QRP team for putting together what has to be said is a excellent kit. I would personally like to thank them for their dedication to our hobby, and as Bill N2CQR puts it true Victims of "The Knack".

Home-made antennas can greatly improve the performance of AM and FM radios,short-wave receivers, and scanners. If you are a talk-radio fan then experiment with the AM band antennas and you will be able to hear shows from all over the country with surprising clarity. Short-wave receivers are always coping with weak signals and they must have a good antenna to perform adequately. Scanners can pick up local police and two-way radio with the little telescoping antenna provided but with good antennas a scanner becomes an amazing ear on the world nearby. No pre-amp, filter or other receiver refinement offers anywhere near the level of performance improvement t that a well-designed antenna offers. The results can be quite satisfying, leaving no doubt that the project was well worth the effort.

I have just completed a useful little tool an LC Meter form G4HUP. This I come across by chance and decided to order the kit. it's very well thought out and an expertly designed. The Kit was well packed and delivered in a very timely manner it’s also been reviewed in RadCom http://g4hup.com/LCM/L-C%20p62_63_RadComJuly09.pdf Do follow the instructions carefully there are a few bit’s that can catch you out e.g. the links needed.

Hi this is my latest little project and I have just completed building it and I have to hand it to them the quality of the kit was very good. The parts were well identified and well packaged. Don’t let the SMD components put you off this kit with a little time and a quick searching on utube you will find lots of demonstrations of handling and soldering SMD devices. I will post a Picture of my finished radio later in the day ;)

IGEN Regenerative Receiver Kit

Tube Regenerative Receiver with Solid State Amp IGEN.

It's a good little kit to get started with fiddling with valves no nasty HT. I have also purchases the HF coil kit as well and got it working receiving 3.5MHz to about 8.5MHz ideal ;)

Willet RX

I have now built the Willet RX and I must say the instructions were good and the radio is spot on for a little DC receiver for 80, 40, 20M that you can switch between bands.

Out of all the direct conversion receiver kits I looked at this gives the most pleasing combinations of bands, most of the others are one band only builds.

QFH Antenna

I have been looking round for a while to replace my dis-cone antenna. Much of what I read lead me to looking at the QFH antenna I eventual found a good web site with some good pictures and a straightforward build plan please see this link.

The QFH far out preforms my dis-cone and is giving very good results. I original had the antenna in my garden well away from the house. I decided to then pop a bracket on the back wall of the house. This as it turns out was quite a mistake as I now seem to get drop out in the images, this I think is due to the antenna being too close to my tv antenna and level with it.

I was fortunate to have materials left over from the build of the QFH so am currently am building a second QFH that I will place in the garden again. where the the original was.
